Dr. Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan (1892-1972) was perhaps the greatest librarian of the 20th century is considered to be the father of library science in India. As an educator, librarian, and thinker, his contributions to the field of library science surpassed all others, and placed the country of India permanently on the world library stage.
